Miami Springs Historical Society hosts an amazing guest speaker internationally famous for his involvement in horse racing. Thomas Joseph Kelly, who has over 70 years experience in horse racing, will speak on horse racing history. In 1993 he was inducted into the U.S.Hall of Fame National Museum of Racing. Biscayne Boulevard/Belle Meade Historic Tour

This tour is offered in conjunction with the Taste of MiMo promotion by local restaurants on Saturday morning. It covers 160 years of recorded history of North East Miami starting with the 1857 Military Trail that became Biscayne Boulevard in the 1920s. Included are boom time Belle Meade and Aqua Marine subdivisions and the architecture of the Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco and MiMo periods and the history of Coppertone, Benjamin Green, its forgotten inventor, and the historic Coppertone Girl sign. The tour lasts approximately 1 ¼ hours and covers about a mile on foot. A donation of $10 for the Biscayne MiMo Association is requested; no credit cards.
