Historic Designation Services

Do you own a property that was constructed over 50 years ago?  There are great benefits associated with designating your property as an historic structure, including increased property values and tax benefits. Dade Heritage Trust is presenting a new Historic Designation service to assist you in determining if your home or commercial building is eligible for designation and handle the designation process for you.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about designation.  Contrary to popular belief, designation is not costly nor does it prohibit you from making changes to your home or building.   Historic designations merely act to preserve those historic portions of the buildings and the features that make them historic. A property owner may add, alter, and even demolish portions of historic buildings provided the proposed project is in keeping with the character of the original structure.  When neighbors come together to designate their structures, generally they have assured that their property values will rise and the neighborhood will be more stable.  This is a proven fact.

Saturday Morning Brickell Avenue Walking Tours

The area now known as Brickell was settled in the modern era in the mid-1800s by early pioneers. The area grew to become Miami’s “Millionaire’s Row” in the early 1900s after the construction of lavish mansions along Brickell Avenue, some by the Brickell family that had title to a large tract of land south of the Miami River. By the 1970s, office towers, hotels and apartments began replacing the historic mansions. Today, Brickell has grown to overtake the city’s historic central business district to the north, as one of the largest financial districts in the United States. With an increasing residential population, Brickell is one of Miami’s fastest-growing as well as its most dense neighborhood, with a 2015 population of about 48,000.

The Saturday morning tours will alternately take us north on Brickell to the Miami River or south to Simpson Park. $20 or just $10 for Dade Heritage Trust members. Meet at Dade Heritage Trust at 10:00am. Tickets available on eventbrite.com.
