Angel Sosa was honored for his family’s stewardship of an historic gas station located at the southwest corner of Coral Way and SW 17 Avenue in Miami’s Silverbluff neighborhood. The gas station, originally named the Southland Super Service Station, was constructed in 1938 and designated as a historic landmark by the City of Miami in 1983. Gulf Oil later acquired the building and planned to demolish it for a modern service station in the early 1980s. Through collaboration with the City of Miami, Gulf compromised, allowing preservation with an additional service area. Angel Sosa and his family have diligently maintained this historic station, demonstrating pride in ownership and a commitment to preserving the community’s architectural heritage.
