The Coconut Grove Crisis Food Pantry, Inc. was acknowledged for its unwavering commitment to serving the community. Established in 1984 at the historic Christ Episcopal Church in Village West Coconut Grove, the Pantry originated from a collective recognition of the need to support those facing hunger in the area. Initially, it was a collaborative effort among local churches, which expanded over time as additional neighborhood churches joined in. To further their mission, dedicated volunteers began assembling pre-packed bags of groceries, delivering them directly to clients. The Pantry’s clientele reflects the rich diversity of the neighborhood, with many volunteers and clients tracing their roots back to the early Bahamian families integral to Coconut Grove’s history. As the Pantry approaches its 40th anniversary in 2024, it stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of community philanthropy.
