Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade

Represented by Rob and Robin Burr and Marlene Carlin, the Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade were honored with the Dolly MacIntyre Resiliency Award. Originating in 1936 as Miami’s first historical society, the Miami Pioneers were comprised of families who settled in South Florida before 1900, contributing significantly to the region’s infrastructure, business community, culture, and social fabric. Similarly, the Natives of Dade, founded in 1986, aimed to preserve the memories and legacies of those born in Miami-Dade County, fostering a sense of community and shared history. The merger of these two societies in 2002 resulted in the Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade, a collective committed to preserving and sharing Miami’s rich heritage, exemplifying resilience in the face of change.
