November 10, 2024: Historic City of Opa-Locka Bike Tour

November 10 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Aviation, agriculture, industry, design, and the swinging 1920s. This is the origin story of the city of Opa-Locka, Miami-Dade County’s eighth-oldest municipality located in the northern part of the county just south of Miami Gardens. Co-presented by the Opa-locka Preservation Association and Dade Heritage Trust, the tour starts Opa-locka’s story in 1925. From the days of American aviator Glenn Curtiss purchasing land for the benefit of conservation, then to be developed into a uniquely themed city, to the military’s lasting presence at the Opa-Locka Airport.

The tour is free but registration is required. Wear comfortable shoes, and bring water. Guests are required to sign a liability waiver on the day of the bike ride. The experience begins promptly at 11 a.m. and starts at the Opa-locka Tri-Rail Station located at 480 Ali Baba Avenue, Opa-locka, Fla. 33054. Parking is free. Bikers will be presented with an exclusive discount to a local business in the city at the end of the tour.
