November 10, 2024: Historic City of Opa-Locka Bike Tour
Aviation, agriculture, industry, design, and the swinging 1920s. This is the origin story of the city of Opa-Locka, Miami-Dade County’s eighth-oldest municipality located in the northern part of the county just south of Miami Gardens. Co-presented by the Opa-locka Preservation Association and Dade Heritage Trust, the tour starts Opa-locka’s story in 1925. From the days of American aviator Glenn Curtiss purchasing land for the benefit of conservation, then to be developed into a uniquely themed city, to the military’s lasting presence at the Opa-Locka Airport.
